SOUTHAMPTON APPOINTS CLAUDE PUEL AS NEW MANAGER
Southampton has confirmed the appointment of Claude Puel as the club's new manager replacing Ronald Koeman who joined fellow Premier League club; Everton last month.
The Frenchman takes over at St. Mary's after signing a three-year deal with the Premier League Club.
Having led Monaco to the Ligue 1 title in 2000, Puel also took Lyon to her first-ever Champions League semi-final in 2010.
Puel who was unvailed as by the South Coast team will be assisted by Eric Black, who had been at Aston Villa last term.
Southampton had been weighing up potential successors to Koeman after he opted to join Everton.
Vitor Pereira and Eddie Howe were also mentioned but Southampton have turned to Puel.
Puel faces a rebuilding task at St. Mary's after the recent sales of Victor Wanyama and Sadio Mane to fellow Premier league clubs; Totenham and Liverpool respectively.
Puel in his remark retirated that the challenge for him is to continue to maintain good results in the league bringing about success.
He said: "The challenge for me, and for the club also, is to continue the good results and to play games every three days.
"It's a new thing for the club, although not for me, because I know this, but it will be important to know the particularities of this season and I think it will be important to give success and to keep the philosophy of the club also – a squad with very good technique and a team that can give pleasure for the fans."
