FIFA Ban And The Future of Nigeria Football
The crisis in the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is fast becoming a national disgrace and a cause for concern for this great nation. It is becoming a trend that each time election is to be held to replace the outgoing executive board there will be one ranchor or the other.
The Present crisis rocking the NFF has left FIFA's hammer hanging over Nigeria's football as the Federation stands the risk of being banned if the Federation does not return to Status-quo by 8am Swiss time on 8th September following directives by FIFA in its latest communique dated 3rd September.
Although Aminu Maigari and his board has been reinstated as the NFF President by a faction of the NFF, the fact that the Chris Giwa led faction still remain in office is contrary to FIFA's directive implying they should vacate office which shows Nigeria is not off the hook yet.
I thought these so called officials are there to promote the game by doing things and making decisions that will further improve football in the country, but their actions paint a different picture.
If the Federation is banned by FIFA come 8th September, it will be a repeat of the 1996 incident in which the Super Eagles were unable to defend the trophy they won in Tunisia in 1994 because they failed to attend the1996 edition of the AFCON games in South Africa, and were then banned by CAF and FIFA, this singular act had a negative impact on the country's football when they were reinstated for the year 2000 edition which they co-hosted with Ghana and won Silver losing to Cameroun on Penalties in the final .
Since FIFA's status has mandated that there should be no government interference in the game, it makes it more difficult to really address the situation and call the bluff of these groups of parasites who wish to suck the Federation dry, and take away the only thing that gives millions of football fans in this country joy.
If FIFA has void the election that brought in Chris Giwa as the NFF president and failed to recognize him as a substantial head of the Nation's football governing body, what else would the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) have to say, I dare to say that this self-proclaimed President wants to destroy our football and not improve it as proclaimed.
The case is simple; vacate office and contest in the election to be conducted by the FIFA recognized board and if he is the people's choice he will definitely emerge as the President instead of holding this great nation to ransom over selfish ambition.
