MANCHESTER UNITED CONFIRMS MKHITARYAN SIGNING
Manchester United has concluded and announce the signing of their new acquisition from Dortmund, Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
The Armenia international attacking midfielder completed his £26.3 million transfer from Borussia Dortmund Wednesday afternoon after signing a four-year contract with the option of a further 12 months.
Mkhitaryan becomes Mourinho’s third signing after defender Eric Bailly and Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the Portugese manager is convinced the 27-year-old will help to re-energise United as they bid to break away from the cautious, risk averse football played under Louis van Gaal and David Moyes.
"Henrikh is a very talented footballer who has been in such prolific form for both his club and his country," Mourinho said. "He is a real team player with great skill, vision and also has a good eye for goal. I am delighted he has chosen to sign for United.
"I believe he will make an impact on the team very quickly as his style of play is suited to the Premier League. We are all looking forward to working with him.
"We want to play differently than last season. My philosophy is different to Van Gaal's. It's not better, it's different. I am more vertical, I am more intense and I like the ball possession as a way to create a chance to be vertical.
"I don't like ball possession as a way to just keep statistically possession of the ball and be afraid to play a game with transitions. Transitions always come during a game. I’m not afraid to lose the ball. I’m not afraid of risk."
Mkhitaryan joined Dortmund from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2013 as a replacement for Germany midfielder, Mario Gotze, and he contributed a total of 40 goals in 136 appearances in his three years at Signa Iduna park.
