NEYMAR EXTENDS BARCELONA STAY

Speculation surrounding the future of Brazilian forward, Neymar, has finally been put to bed as he has signed a new five-year contract with his current club Barcelona.

The new contract according to the statement released by the Catalan club will keep Neymar at the club until 2021, ending all possible summer links to the likes of Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain.

A statement on Barcelona's official website reads: "FC Barcelona and the player Neymar Jr have signed a contract extension for the footballer which will keep him at the club for the next five seasons, until 30 June 2021.

"On 15 July in Barcelona, before the player joins up with the Brazilian national side for the Olympic Games, the agreement will be presented formally."

According to the new deal between the two parties, Should Neymar wish to move from the Spanish champions over the next half-decade, in theory the 24-year-old would have to pay £167m during the first year of his new deal, £185m during the second and £210m in each of the remaining three.

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu revealed at a press conference on Thursday that an agreement was close before the 24-year-old confirmed his intention to stay later in the day.

Neymar has scored 85 goals in 141 games since joining Barcelona in 2013, winning eight trophies.
