Manchester City Emerge Champion Of English Football
Manchester City has clinched the Barclays Premier League title for the second time in three years after defeating Westham United 2-0 at the Ethihad.
Samir Nasri's thunderous shot from about 24 yards out and Vincent Kompany's tuck in from close range gave the 2011/2012 champions their second EPL title in recent time, fourth in the club's history.
Going into the day's game, City need only avoid defeat as they sit at the top of the log with 83points, two more than Liverpool who occupy the second position with 81points and needed an outright win and pray for an unlikely defeat for Manchester City if they are to win the trophy.
Manuel Pellegrini made a single change to the side that started against Aston Villa in mid-week; Aguero returned from a groin injury and started behind Edin Dzeko in a two man attack.
City started the better side as expected, while Westham sat back to check all of the citizens' attacking move.
David Silva blasted City's first chance of the game over the bar just after 10 minutes and the Westham defence went all tight thereafter.
After much probing with no success, Nasri decided to try a long range shot which eventually gave his team the much anticipated lead.
Yaya Toure laid the ball inside to Nasri 30 metres from goal, He controlled and strode forward beating his maker before unleashing a vicious drive low into Adrian's right bottom corner for the opener.
The victory was complete just four minutes into the second half when Vincent Kompany lash onto a loose ball from close range after the ball from a corner kick struck Dzeko's back and fell kindly for him.
Liverpool's 2-1 victory over Newcastle United at Anfield and was not enough to dislodge the Citizens at the summit of the log as they finish two points behind them.
