Wayne Rooney has sustained a toe injury which could potentially rule him out of Manchester United's Champions League quarter-final second leg tie against Bayern Munich nextweek at the Allianz Arena.
Rooney picked up the injury during Tuesday's 1-1 first leg draw at Old trafford and has been ruled out of the Premier League game against Newcastle at St James Park on Saturday.
United manager David Moyes said: "He's got a badly bruised toe. It could be a problem for the Munich match.
"We'll get him treatment all over the weekend and see if we can speed it up."
The absence of the 28 year old England striker would be a bitter blow for Manchester United as he has been inspirational despite the teams's poor run of form.
Rooney's absence means Manager, David Moyes is left with the option of just two strikers in Welbeck and Chicarito to select from when they visit Newcastle and possibly against Bayern Munich as Van Persie is also ruled out.
