Eto'o Leads Chelsea To A 4 Goal Thumping Of Tottenham

Samuel Eto'o put the controversy about his age behind him as he helps Chelsea move seven points clear at the top of the Premier League table with an emphatic 4-0 win over 10-man Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

Eto'o gave his side the lead in the second-half after Chelsea played second fiddle to a rampaging Tottenham side in the first half of the game before Eden Hazard extended the lead via penalty minutes later and two late goals from substitute Demba Ba sealing Tottenhams hopes of coming back into the game.

Though the first half of the match saw Tottenham showing more intent to score has Cech as called to duty on several occassions to keep his side in the game, Spurs were guilty of some woeful defending and were duely punished for it.

First Jan Vertonghen slipped and attempted to clear the ball while on the ground but he only managed to push it into Eto'o's path, and he inturn accepting the gift put it beyond Hugo Lloris to give Chelsea the lead in the 56th minute, a goal a celebrated by bending over the corner flag like an old man, a nod to recent controversy about his age.

Three minutes later, things went worse for Tottenham, Kaboul was penalised by the referee for what was believed to be a shove on Eto'o in the box as they both raced for an Eden Hazard's cross as such earning him a red card and a penalty against his team. Hazard stepped up and convert taking Chelsea's lead to two.

There was no way back for Tottenham's 10 men from there. Hazard and Oscar both wasted good chances to extend the home side's lead before further gifts gave substitute Ba his late brace.

Sandro stumbled as he tried to clear Oscar's cross from the right, allowing Ba in to beat Lloris.

Then, Walker inexplicably tried to head a Lloris clearance back to his keeper, instead setting up Ba to complete the rout.

The defeat leaves Tottenham sitting 5th on the table still four points adrift of the top four, after 29 games, one game more than Liverpool and Arsenal sitting 2nd and 3rd respectively and 3 more than Manchester City in 4th leaving their hopes of a Champions League place now appear remote.
