Brazil 2014: A Look At The Two Finalist

As the 19th edition of the FIFA World Cup taking place in Brazil concludes, it is now time to look how the two finalist has journeyed so far and see if the trophy will remain in Europe for the second successive campaign or return to South America where the Europeans snatched it from in 2006 when Italy defeated France at the Final.
With the final of the ongoing FIFA World Cup scheduled for Sunday, 13th July 2014, the tournament has been an eventful one, as fans has been treated to a good time of football with unpredictable results and breath taking performances of some teams not leaving out the shocking score line in some of the fixtures, However, there can only be a single winner, and in this case its either Argentina or Germany.

Leading into the Final, both Argentina and Germany have won the trophy two and three times respectively with Germany making their record 8th appearance at a World Cup final; making them the team with the most appearance at the finals of the tournament, one more than Brazil, while Argentina has made it to the final five times.

Having been grouped alongside Nigeria, Bosnia and Iran in group F, Argentina won the group with maximum 9 points as they won their three group stage matches; scoring 6 goals and conceding just 2. The knockout stage was not different; a one nil slim victory over Switzerland and Belgium at the round of 16 and quarter finals pitched the Albiceleste against Netherlands in the semi-final which they won 4-2 on penalties and more on to the finals, meaning they have scored a total of 8 goals and conceded only two.

Unlike their opponent, Germany is the highest scoring side at this years tournament having scored 16 goals so far, with the 7-1 thumping of host, Brazil, the high point of their performance at the mundia. The Joachim Low led side like Argentina won their group with 7points after defeating Portugal and USA and playing a 2-2 draw with Ghana, they then face Algeria at the round of 16 winning the Africans 2-1 as the game stretched into extra time, before ending the impressive run of France at the quarter final with a 1-0 defeat and thereafter capping their run with a record breaking 7-1 humiliation of Brazil at the semi final stage of the competition. They however have conceded more goals than Argentina having let in 4 goals.

With these statistics in-between the two, it is quite difficult to say for sure which of this two sides will emerge the eventual winner of this year's edition of the competition, given that they both are football power house and has done very well in the course of the tournament, all the same let the best team on the night win or should I say "let the luckiest of the two win"
