Messi Handed The Golden Ball Award

 WC 2014: Messi wins Golden Ball
Despite Argentina's loss to Germany at the final of the just concluded FIFA World Cup, four time Ballon d'OR holder, Lionel Messi was awarded the best player of the tournament when he received the Golden Ball award at the award ceremony.


The Argentine captain was an inspiration in the Albiceleste's play and has four goals to his name in the tournament.

Messi was shortlisted by FIFA on a 10 man list which also has the likes of; Arjen Robben, Neymar, James Rodriguez, Thomas Muller, Angel Di Maria, Javier Mascherano, Mats Hummels, Toni Kroos, Phillip Lahm.

Other Winners on the night include; Manuel Neuer who was handed the Golden Glove as the best Goal Keeper of the tournament emulating the likes of Iker Casilas and Gianluigi Buffon, while Columbia young star, James Rodriguez  officially receives the Golden Boot, as the highest goal scorer of the tournament with six goals to his name.
