Mancini Departs Galatasaray
Having recently said he wanted to remain in Turkey, Roberto Mancini has left his position as the head coach of Turkish club, Galatasaray.
The Italian Coach had joined the Istanbul-based side on a three-year deal at the end of September 2013, replacing Fathi Terim but now leaves by mutuial agreement after just nine months in charge.
Announcing his departure on Wednesday, a statement on the club's official website thank Mancini for his efforts and wish him success and good luck in the future.
"By Mr Mancini's request and by mutual agreement, the contract was terminated.
"According to the agreement, Mr Mancini does not have any further external demands and the parties have agreed to part ways with full friendship and understanding.
"We want to thank him for his efforts and wish him success and good luck for the future." the statement reads
while making his departure known, Mancini said he is saddened to leave the club and its supporters
"As a coach I understand the demands of the club. However, when I accepted the coaching post, Gala's aims were different," Mancini told Gazzetta dello Sport.
"In the past eight months, despite enduring a challenging start, I have done my job pushed by passion and by hunger which has resulted in the team qualifying for the Champions League, lifting the Turkish Cup and finishing second in the league.
"It's with sadness that I leave Istanbul and the club's fantastic supporters."
49 year old Mancini led Galatasaray to the Turkish Cup victory in the final over Eskisehirspor, a second place finish in the Turkish league behind Fernaberche, and a round of 16 stage finish at the Champions League.
