Champions League Playoff: Arsenal face turkish opposition, Napoli plays Bilbao



Arsenal will play Turkish side Besiktas in the Champions League play-off round, while Napoli will play host to Athletic Bilbao in the playoff round of the UEFA champions league stage.

Arsenal who was seeded ahead of the draws finished fourth in the English Premier League while Besiktas finished third in the Turkish Super League.

This is the second time in two seasons the Gunners will be facing a Turkish opposition at this stage of the competition as they had scale past Fernabache last season to play at the group stage of the competition.

In what is arguably the standout tie of the play-offs, Italian side Napoli will face La Liga representatives Athletic Bilbao if they are to reach the group stages.

The Serie A outfit impressed in the Champions League three years ago, but failled to progress beyond the group stage last season. Atheticon the other hand have appeared in the Champions League just once before, when they crashed out in the group stages in 1998-1999.

Other fixtures in this stage of the competition will see Bayern Leverkusen play Copahengen, Porto against Lille, Standard Liege against Zenith St Petersburge, Celtic after being restated travel to Slovenia to play Maribor.

The opening legs for the UEFA Champions League playoffs will be played on August 19 and 20, with the return games on August 26 and 27, the 10 winners joining the 22 teams automatically qualified for the group stage.

The first legs of the Europa League play-offs will be played on Thursday, 21 August and the second legs on 28 August.

In the second tier of the UEFA Club competition, the Europa League, Tottenham will play AEL Limassol of Cyprus and Hull City face Belgian side Lokeren.
