Branislav Ivanovic Manchester City Chelsea EPL 03022014

Branislav Ivanovic left footed drive gave Chelsea the deciding goal to end City's long unbeating record at the Ethihad stadium and takes them joint second with their opponent on 53points.

Manchester City before tonight had won 19 of their last 20 last home games in all competitions scoring 61 goals in their home games so far.

It is the first time City has failed to score at home since their goalless draw fixture at home to  Birmingham City in November 2010.

Manuel Pellegrini, named a squad that has  Martin Demichelis play along side Yaya Toure in the midfield just infront of the defence for injure Fernadinho, and Negredo also deployed in the Midfield just behind Edin Dzeko the lone man upfront.

City bust into their usual inpressive dominant game early inthe game but failed to take their chances.

With just 10 minutes played, Aleksandar Kolarov was released on the left hand and the Serb delivered a dangerous ball across the six-yard box, but a lunging Toure could not quite reach it at the back post.

Eight minutes later Toure held off Matic's Challenge and rolled the ball into Silva's part but the spaniard flicked the ball wide of Cech's goal.

Chelsea took over play as they won a free-kick just outside City's penalty area but Luiz blasted over the bar.

The Blues however took an unlikely lead as the caught City on counter and Ramires was played through but his initial shot was blocked by City's defend and it only went as far as Ivanovic just out side the area for him to shoot a one time left footed missile into the right bottom corner of Joe Hart's goal.

Chelsea could have extended their lead but they saw three of their efforts hit the bar, first was Samuel Eto'o after a superb work from Hazard then the City defence failed to clear and the ball fell towards Matic who took a sensational drive onto the woodwork and minutes later Gary Cahill found the same woodwork from a corner.

Substitute Stevan Jovetic, who came on for Alvaro Negredo in the second half, forced Cech into a fine save in injury time as Chelsea held firm in the face of strong late pressure from the hosts to move two points behind Arsenal in the table.

Chelsea however defended resolutely cutting out all of City's attacking moves and held on to there lead to secure a very important victory placing them joint second with Manchester City on 53 points and move just two points behind leaders Arsenal.
