Barcelona came from a goal down to defeat Sevilla away from home 4-1 to go tops of the La Liga log table capitalizing on the loss suffered by Athletico Madrid.
Two goals from Lionel Messi and one each from Alexis Sanchez and Cesc Fabregas were all the catalans needed to regain top spot.
Alberto Moreno opened the scoring for the host at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan when his 15th-minute shot was deflected in by Marc Bartra, but the hosts were unable to pull clear as they missed numerous chances.
Sevilla came agonisingly close to doubling their advantage seven minutes later as Carlos Bacca headed against Victor Valdes' right-hand post from a Rakitic free-kick.
Alexis Sanchez equalised with a debateable header after 34 minutes, from a seemingly offside position, Messi then put Barcelona ahead just before half-time with his first La Liga goal from open play since September 28 against Almeria.
Messi scored his second of the game 11 minutes into the second half with another wonderful finish after collecting a pass from Andres Iniesta on the edge of the area before driving it to the bottom-left corner, out of Beto's reach.
Despite Sevilla's frantic effort to get back into the game it was Barcelona that scored again when Substitute Cesc Fabregas dinged an Alexis Sanchez cut-back over Beto into the net to put the icing on the cake.
The Victory means Barcelona is now tied on point with Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid all on 57points but Barcelona tops with a superior goal difference.
