Ronaldo Sees Red As Madrid Fails To Top Barcelona

Cristiano Ronaldo was sent off yesterday for violent conduct as Real Madrid failed to capitalise on Barcelona's loss to Valencia and go top of the catalan giant into secon place.

The Portuguese striker received a straight red card after raising his hands in a confrontation with Carlos Gurpegi in Real Madrid's 1-1 draw away to Atletico Bilbao ending their eight-match winning run in all competitions.

Real Madrid sit third in La Liga, level on points with defending champions Barcelona but three points behind city rivals Atletico.

The Carlo Ancelotti led team men had won every game they had played in 2014, scoring 17 times and not conceding a goal.

Despite the unimpressive performance in the first half, it was Madrid who took the lead in the 65th minute through Jese who came in for injured Gareth Bale.

Ronaldo was played through on the left and he inturn played a left footed low cross into the six yard area for 20 year old Jesse to lunge unto directing it into the bottom right corner.

Bilbao drew level from a superb half volley by substitute Gomez who came in for Iker Muniain.

Gomez pulled a cross into the 18 yard area of Madrid but it was head out only as far as Gomez who then took a superlative one time half volley which dinged into the bottom corner to beat fully stretched Diego Lopez in goal.

Things got worse for Real as Ronaldo was sent off for reacting to a shove by Gurpegi, although it appeared he made little or no contact as he waved his hands towards the defender's face.
