Liverpool Opens 4point Lead Over Everton With A 4-0 Victory


Fit again striker, Daniel Sturidge and Luiz Suarez were in superlative form as the Liverpool put in a wonderful performance to see off their Merseyside opponents, Everton 4-0, in one of the most dramatic derbys in English football.

Liverpool maintained their pursuit of a top-four finish with the convincing win, opening up a 4points lead over their Merseyside Neigbhours.


Martinez made a couple of changes to the starting lineup at Liverpool - Ross Barkley, Steven Pienaar and Antolin Alcaraz return from injury to give Everton a boost, while Jagielka passed a fitness test to after picking up a knock against Stevenage on Saturday.

Brendon Rodgers also made three changes to his lineup, Simon Mignonet, Raheem Sterling, and Jon Flanagan all started for the Reds.

Liverpool went ahead after 21 minutes when Gerrard headed home from a corner.

The Lead was increased in the 28th minute as Sturridge was played through on goal by Coutinho and he calmly roll the ball past Howard in goal.

Sturridge got his second in the 33rd minute when he stuck his foot out to lob the ball over the head of onrushing Tim Howard and extend the lead to 3-0.

Luiz Suarez was not left out as he capitalized on an error by Jagielka to race through on goal and calmly play past Howard.

It should have been four and five, but Sturridge failed to convert a penalty and Coutinho's effort was kept out by Howard.

The victory is the biggest for Liverpool over Everton since 1982 and it also means the Everton continue to search for a win at Anfield since 1999.
